HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division has received a $56 million U.S. Navy contract for engineering and design support tied to AUKUS, with an option that could raise its cumulative value to $91 million, according to the company’s October 13 announcement.

The work supports the United Kingdom and Australia through technology insertion, engineering, supply-chain and workforce development, and digital transformation. It also includes a United States Industry Support effort under which Newport News engineers and designers will assist with the SSN-AUKUS submarine design. The award is for support work, rather than delivery of a completed submarine.

The supplier work has a documented earlier milestone. In a separate August 2025 announcement, HII identified Perth-based Hofmann Engineering as the first Australian business to complete its Australian Submarine Supplier Qualification Program and receive a request for quotation from Newport News Shipbuilding. That identifies a concrete supply-chain step; it does not establish that the newly announced design-support contract has already delivered submarines or production capacity.

The latest announcement gives the contract value, option and categories of work, but no completed-submarine delivery schedule or breakdown of funding among those activities.
